What are CORBA and SNMP?

CORBA stands for "Common Object Request Broker Architecture" and is the communications protocol specified for use between UTMC systems and instation applications. Each supplier of a UTMC-compliant instation system or application must support the relevant CORBA Data Objects.

SNMP stands for "Simple Network Management Protocol" and is the communications protocol specified for use between UTMC instation applications and roadside equipment. SNMP uses MIBs (Management Information Bases) to define the manageable or controllable parameters (or objects) in remote equipment.

Each supplier of UTMC-compliant roadside equipment must therefore support the MIB appropriate to their equipment. There are therefore MIBs for car park counters, variable message signs and air quality monitors.
