Buying UTMC solutions
A local authority can procure a UTMC system much as they might procure other systems - in a single transaction by tender. This requires the authority to be certain that they have considered and documented all of their requirements in considerable detail. The open and more competitive nature of UTMC enables purchasers to gain considerable knowledge and understanding of the solution through pre-tender discussion with suppliers.
The confidence gained through this more 'evolutionary' approach enables purchasers to pick the solution which is most appropriate for their needs rather than a 'one-size fits all' solution. For example, IDT's roadside equipment (car park counters and traffic counters) are proven to work with two of the leading suppliers of UTMC-compliant instations, Tenet ITMapping Ltd and Mott MacDonald. Purchasers deploying systems from these companies can use any mixture of UTMC-compliant roadside equipment supplied by IDT or other companies (including our competitors).
Communications must be regarded as a critical component of any UTMC deployment. IDT provide consultancy services leading to communication network designs which will support UTMC operation and meet the technical, geographical and financial requirements of the purchaser. We have the capability to implement our designs and will integrate all sub-components of the system to ensure interoperability throughout.
IDT has been closely involved with the UTMC programme since its inception and our UTMC-compliant product range currently comprises car park occupancy counters and traffic flow counters which are proven to work with any UTMC-compliant Instation.
We also design and implement communications solutions for UTMC systems which provide all the necessary network connectivity to UTMC-compliant equipment supplied either by us or other manufacturers. IDT-designed networks currently provide the essential connectivity for UTMC-compliant equipment in York, Sheffield and Stockport.
